Common name: Brown Planthopper

Disease Name

Brown Planthopper

Visible Signs of Damage:

Yellowing of Plants: Nymphs and adults suck sap from the base of rice plants, causing leaves to become yellow.

Hopper Burn: Severe infestation causes circular patches of plants to turn brown, dry and appear burnt.

Weak Tillers: Continuous sap sucking weakens tillers and reduces plant vigour.

Honeydew and Sooty Mould: Sticky honeydew may collect near the base of plants and encourage black fungal growth.

Reduced Grain Formation: Heavy infestation affects panicle development, grain filling and overall yield.

Target Crop: Rice.
